Ticket information for the FC Köln stadium
At the RheinEnergieSTADION, you can opt for seats in the lower or upper tier. You can experience the stars of 1. FC Köln up close right on the edge of the pitch, while in the upper tier you get a bird’s eye view and can better analyse the action.
Pure passion reigns in the south curve, as this is where the club’s active fan clubs are based. The entire lower tier of the curve is therefore standing room only, but you can also sit comfortably in the upper tier.
The opposite guest sector is also divided into standing room in the lower tier and seats in the upper tier. However, there is no separate family block in the Köln Stadion. However, as the stands are very moderate anyway, you can still plan a great day out with the whole family at the stadium.
Tickets for the RheinEnergieSTADION can be purchased in advance via the 1. FC Köln website. Advance sales start around three weeks before the match day. Especially for upcoming top matches, it can also be worthwhile to be notified via the newsletter when tickets go on sale.
The “Effzeh” also operates a ticket exchange in the 1st Bundesliga. Here you can try your luck if a home match is already sold out or if you unfortunately can’t make it to the RheinEnergieSTADION after all.
Stadium tour and events at the former Müngersdorf stadium: an overview
The FC Köln stadium is one of the city’s landmarks and should be on every football fan’s bucket list. When the ball isn’t rolling, you can even take a look behind the scenes and take part in a guided tour of the arena. Tickets are available from KölnTicket and various third-party providers.
You cannot book tickets for a guided tour of the former Müngersdorf stadium through FC Köln itself. Nevertheless, a tour of the arena is of course all about the club. You’ll get insights that are otherwise only reserved for the players, officials and coaches, get to walk through the players’ tunnel and visit the “Effzeh” changing room.
The slightly more expensive tours with a special guide provide an unforgettable experience. Let the stadium announcer, refereeing legend Walter Eschweiler or Cologne veteran Matthias Scherz accompany you through the catacombs of the RheinEnergieSTADION and gain additional insider information.
On match days, you can also opt for the match day tour. Before the players take to the pitch, you can stand on the touchline once again. Finally, you can watch the stands in the stadium fill up from the Lukas Podolski box before returning to your seat yourself.
During the summer break, Cologne’s RheinEnergieSTADION also regularly hosts concerts. As the stadium is owned by Kölner Sportstätten GmbH, the home of FC Köln is not just a football stadium.

Interesting facts about the FC Köln stadium
The history of the former Sportpark Müngersdorf began over 100 years ago, as the origins of today’s RheinEnergieSTADION date back to 1923. For 13 years, the stadium was the largest sports venue in Germany – until the Olympic Stadium in Berlin was opened in 1936.
Today, the home of 1. FC Köln is no longer one of the largest stadiums with 50,000 seats, but the atmosphere is still particularly good. Incidentally, the modern stadium has only existed in its current form since 2004, as it was extensively refurbished following its construction in 1975. This extensive refurbishment was necessary for Cologne to be considered as a venue for the 2006 World Cup.
For international matches, the FC Köln stadium shrinks from 50,000 to around 46,000 seats, as the standing room has to be filled. As a result, the arena was also one of the smaller venues for the 2006 World Cup and the 2024 European Championship. In addition to these two historic major events, the RheinEnergieSTADION also hosted the Europa League final in the 2019/20 season.
The DEL Winter Games in 2015, 2019 and 2022 were also a very special highlight, with matches taking place outdoors at all three events. With up to 50,000 fans, the Cologne Sharks matched against a spectacular backdrop.
How to get to the RheinEnergieSTADION

The RheinEnergieSTADION is located in the west of Cologne, which is why travelling to the stadium by car is generally no problem. However, there are only a few parking spaces available directly at the stadium and the club itself recommends that you use the P+R facilities on the outskirts of Cologne in this case. As the ticket can also be used as a travel pass, there are no additional costs.
You can take tram line 1 from the city centre to the Rheinenergie Stadion stop. From there, it is only a few minutes’ walk to the arena. The T1 also departs directly from the main railway station, so you can easily travel to the RheinEnergieSTADION by train. From Cologne Airport, take the S1 in the direction of Düren. You can then change back to the T1 at the Köln-Weiden West stop.
Travelling by public transport is usually the only way to get to the stadium quickly and comfortably. Alternatively, you can also take a taxi on home match days, as there are no traffic restrictions around the stadium.
