How much can football tickets cost?
Every football fan looks forward to the next match day and having a ticket in their possession ...
Turkey’s football stadiums are no longer an insider tip among groundhoppers and passionate fans. The matches between Galatasaray, Besiktas and Fenerbahce in particular promise duels in an unrivalled atmosphere. In addition to the championship, the cup competition offers the best opportunity for matches full of atmosphere in Turkish football.
The Türkiye Kupasi is the second most important national title for the teams there and over 100 teams play for this trophy. To experience one of the matches live, fans have to put up with a certain amount of expense. Turkey’s ticket system, which is organised by the service provider Passolig, is a thing of its own and applies to Türkiye Kupasi tickets as well as tickets for Süper Lig championship matches. Here you can find out how to get a day ticket and what the system is all about.
These are the upcoming matches at Türkiye Kupasi:
Unfortunately there are currently no tickets available.
Tickets for all home matches of Turkish professional clubs are generally issued via the service provider Passolig. This involves the Passolig card and the Passolig app. One of the two is required to be able to enter a stadium of a Turkish first or second division club.
Anyone wishing to attend a Türkiye Kupasi match must first register with Passo and apply for the Passolig card. The card can either be sent home by post or sent to a selected stadium where it can be collected. A passport and a valid mobile phone number are required for registration. A fee of around 5 euros must also be paid.
It is also very important to note that each Passolig card is issued to a specific club (e.g. Galatasaray) when it is applied for. This can be problematic insofar as a Galatasaray Passolig card does not allow you to enter the Fenerbahce home ground. In such a case, another Passolig card – issued to Fenerbahce – is required.
Once the registration and card order have been successfully completed, there is a Passo account to which the card is linked and with which the Passo app can also be used. The latter can be used to present the valid Passo account and ticket at the stadium entrance as an alternative to the card.
The actual ticket purchase is therefore not made via the individual Turkish professional clubs, but via Passolig. At least this applies to the direct route. It is also possible to buy tickets on the secondary market, as the electronic tickets can be transferred to another Passolig account. Due to the complexity of buying tickets via Passolig, football fans even recommend using ticket exchanges such as Viagogo in many cases.
With over 100 teams in the cup competition, cup tickets at Türkiye Kupasi naturally vary greatly in price. Particularly in the first rounds, there are initially only matches with lower-ranked teams playing for qualification for the main round. In these cases, ticket prices are in the mid to low double-digit range.
Tickets for the top teams in the Süper Lig are a different story, however, and the three teams from Istanbul are a good indicator of this. The majority of seats at Galatasaray, Besiktas and Fenerbahce actually cost 100 euros or more. For the best view and proximity to the pitch, you can even pay up to 300 euros per person.
To get the cheapest possible cup tickets, fans need to look at the smaller clubs away from the title favourites from Istanbul. However, if a cup match involving Galatasaray and co. is a must, the best opportunity is either the earliest possible cup round or the guest section if the opponent is not a direct rival.
When purchasing a guest ticket, it is important to ensure that the correct Passolig ticket is used. If the visiting club is not a professional team, for which there are separate Passolig tickets, it is sufficient if the ticket is not allocated to the home club and also not to a possible city rival.
The Türkiye Kupasi consists of two phases. Several rounds of qualifying, a preliminary round so to speak, are followed by the main round, starting with the quarter-finals. The dates for the qualifying matches start at the end of August or beginning of September and usually run until December. The 14 best teams in the Süper Lig only enter the competition towards the end of qualifying. The quarter-finals, semi-finals and final finally take place in April, May and June.
The draws for all matches are made two to four weeks before each round, with the pairings for the semi-finals being finalised by the time the quarter-finals are drawn. A few days after each draw, tickets usually go on sale. There are also many offers on the secondary market.
The ticket system with Passolig is repeatedly criticised in fan circles. In particular, it is often mentioned that problems occur when tickets are purchased at short notice and that tickets are not dispatched on time, for example. In contrast, buying Türkiye Kupasi tickets early on ticket exchanges is all the more worthwhile to be on the safe side. There are a few important points for interested parties to know in this regard:
It is certainly not uncommon for the winner of the Türkiye Kupasi Cup to be a team from Istanbul. It is no coincidence that Galatasaray is the record cup winner with 18 titles, followed by Besiktas with 10 victories. Fenerbahce secured their 7th cup triumph in 2023.
Nonetheless, a ticket for the Türkiye Kupasi final promises an exciting clash and, above all, top-class football, regardless of whether it’s the Istanbul derby or, as in 2022, when Sivasspor and Kayserispor surprisingly reached the final and played out a thrilling 3:2 after extra time.
The venue for the final at the end of the season in May or June is chosen each year by the Turkish Football Association. Tickets are usually available around 3 to 4 weeks before the match date.
The Türkiye Kupasi is Turkey’s national football cup competition, in which teams from various leagues of the Turkish football system take part. It is organised by the Turkish Football Federation (TFF).
The Türkiye Kupasi was held for the first time in the 1962-1963 season.
Professional teams from the Süper Lig, TFF 1. Lig, TFF 2. Lig and TFF 3. Lig as well as amateur teams that qualify via regional tournaments can take part in the Türkiye Kupasi.
The number of teams taking part in Türkiye Kupasi varies, but generally around 156 teams take part.
The winner of the Türkiye Kupasi qualifies for the UEFA Europa League. If the winner has already qualified for a European competition, qualification may be subject to change.
The final of the Türkiye Kupasi is usually played in a neutral stadium that is determined in advance and can change every year.
