Anyone who has ever experienced a top match in an Italian football stadium will certainly never forget it. A heated atmosphere, resounding fan chants and high-class duels on the pitch. All of this is the order of the day in Serie A championship matches – and even more so in the Italian Cup, the Coppa Italia.
The Coppa is the second most important trophy in Italy after the league title. The big clubs such as Juventus Turin, Inter Milan and SSC Napoli are of course the favourites every year, while Serie B teams often cause surprises. If you want to be there live and watch one of the top matches with a ticket for the Coppa Italia, you have to familiarise yourself with the mode – and be lucky when buying tickets. Here’s all the information you need.
These are the upcoming matches for the Coppa Italia:

The most direct way for fans from Germany to buy tickets is via the respective clubs. As four third-tier Serie C teams also take part in the competition in addition to the Serie A and Serie B teams, there should be a ticket shop on the club website in all cases. However, the problem here is that these online shops are often only available in Italian and possibly English.
In addition, as in other leagues, it is common for high-ranking clubs in particular to prioritise the allocation of tickets. Whether Juve, Inter or Roma – season ticket holders and club members always have priority access to tickets. For matches with high demand, free ticket sales are often cancelled altogether, which is correspondingly likely for cup ties.
However, even when matches are supposedly sold out, interested parties still have the option of buying tickets on the secondary market. There are often still opportunities to buy a few last tickets until shortly before the match day. Another advantage is that the well-known ticket exchanges such as Viagogo or StubHub are easy to access and the market prices of the many sellers can be compared – while the tickets are, of course, original tickets from the official presale.
As mentioned, the cup competition in Italian professional football includes the teams of Serie A, Serie B and the best teams of Serie C. According to the different divisions, there are naturally different ticket prices. For example, Coppa Italia tickets for all clubs below Serie A are likely to be available for low double-digit amounts, provided they are home games.
The aspect of home match rights should also be emphasised. Unlike in Germany, for example, professional Serie A clubs in Italy actually have the right to play at home, even against lower-class opponents.
Anyone wishing to buy cup tickets for the renowned title contenders will have to pay higher ticket prices. As the professional Serie A teams do not enter the Coppa Italia (last 16 teams) until the round of 16, there are hardly any matches for them with low attendance. It is therefore worth looking at the prices of the top teams as a guide:
At Juventus Turin’s Allianz Stadium for the 2024 semi-final, for example, tickets range in price from €42 to €220:
It should be noted that the ticket categories at the lowest price are also the smallest contingents.
The cheapest tickets in the Coppa Italia are always available in the first cup rounds for second and third division matches. It should also be mentioned that the semi-finals are the only cup round in which there are first and second legs. This may offer the chance to get cheap tickets for a Coppa Italia match involving Juventus Turin, AS Roma, Inter Milan and so on.
However, this would require a cup surprise from a lower-ranked team. US Cremonese (Serie B), who reached the semi-finals in 2023 and were only eliminated there by AC Florence, showed that this is not unlikely.
Overall, the Coppa Italia fixture list is similar to the DFB Cup in Germany. The first matches take place at the end of July at the start of the season, while the final is played in May of the following year. However, it is important to note the format:
The very first round is a preliminary round in which the four worst teams in Series B compete against the four best teams in Series C. The next two rounds then also include the remaining Serie B teams and the 9th to 20th places from Serie A. The round of 16, in which the top teams from the first division also take part, takes place at the start of the second half of the season, usually in mid to late January.
In any case, tickets usually go on sale around 2 to 3 weeks before a match date. As already mentioned, the first sales phases are only aimed at season ticket holders and club members. The free sale of day tickets begins, if at all, around a week before the match day. However, all of this only applies to official ticket sales by the clubs. On the secondary market, there are basically no restrictions on ticket sales.
As soon as the first tickets for matches go on sale, regardless of the sales phase, there are already numerous adverts on the ticket exchanges. Most of these are sellers who do not wish to use their season ticket, are unexpectedly unable to attend a match or have lost interest in the match for other reasons.
Anyone who is not yet familiar with buying tickets on the secondary market should note the following important points:
In 2020, SSC Napoli only defeated Juventus Turin on penalties. In 2022, Inter Milan only beat Juventus 4:2 after extra time. These examples alone show: The Coppa Italia final always promises to be an exciting match. Especially as the participation of the top teams in Italian football is almost guaranteed.
Year after year, the secondary market also offers a wide range of tickets for the final match for seats in the Stadio Olimpico, which is always sold out for the final with a capacity of over 73,000. As the official advance sale by the Italian Football Association and the finalists begins 4 to 6 weeks before the match, interested parties should take a look at the ticket exchanges in good time.
Admittedly, higher prices are to be expected and ticket prices in the mid three-digit range are not uncommon. However, if you get in early, you may be able to pick up a bargain and look forward to an indescribable football experience.
The Coppa Italia is an annual Italian football cup competition in which teams from all of Italy’s professional leagues take part. It has been organised since the 1922 season.
