The UEFA Europa League is the second most important competition in European professional football and now regularly features a prestigious field of participants. Liverpool FC, Ajax Amsterdam and, of course, record title-holders Sevilla FC, among others, provide a major football stage on the international stage. Eintracht Frankfurt in particular caused a real euphoria from a German perspective and crowned this with success in a thrilling final.

Just like the final in the Champions League, the decisive clash in the Europa League will also provide a memorable evening of football – with an unrivalled atmosphere. In 2023, this took place in the time-honoured Puskás Arena in Budapest. In 2024, the venue will be the Aviva Stadium in Dublin. Anyone who gets hold of tickets for the Europa League final can therefore look forward to a great trip.

How do you get Europa League Final tickets?

Ticket sales for the final duel in the Europa League are generally organised by the European Football Association. As is the case in the Champions League, UEFA initially allocates a certain number of tickets in equal shares to the respective finalists. A further portion of the available capacity is also reserved for sponsors, partners and members of the association.

A look at the last final shows what this means in figures: the Puskás Arena offered just under 63,000 seats, of which 15,000 each went to the finalists Sevilla FC and AS Roma and 16,800 were sold to the public by UEFA.

With 51,700 seats, the Aviva Stadium in Dublin has a smaller stadium capacity, meaning that the publicly available allocation will also be lower. As in the past, interested parties will be able to apply via the UEFA website. A lottery will then decide who can buy a ticket. Ticket sales for the participating teams are also usually organised by lottery – but this usually only applies to season ticket holders and club members.

Anyone who has had no luck in applying for tickets has to look for them in a roundabout way. The secondary market with ticket portals such as Viagogo or StubHub offers one option. There you will always find offers for all kinds of football matches and therefore certainly also tickets for the Europa League final. However, it is important to be quick there too, as there are of course thousands of football fans who are desperate to see their team in the final.

In addition, there are now many offers for a so-called football trip. Specialist travel agencies offer a travel package comprising a ticket, hotel accommodation and other extras. The price is usually quoted as a lump sum and can be far higher than the cost of the ticket, without it being clear at first which ticket category is involved.

How much do tickets for the Europa League final cost?

In general, the price level in the “second” European Cup is lower than in the Champions League. After all, the upper price limit for CL final tickets was 690 euros when they went on sale officially. What remains the same, however, are the four possible ticket categories that fans can choose from when applying, with the quality of the seats determining the price.

  • Category 4 – 40 Euro
  • Category 3 – 65 Euro
  • Category 2 – 100 Euro
  • Category 1 – 150 Euro

There are also tickets for people with severe disabilities and wheelchair users at a price of 40 euros – including a free ticket for an accompanying person. It is important to know when applying (and for possible purchase on the secondary market) that the contingents are also smaller for the cheaper tickets. In this respect, the ratio between supply and demand is all the more divergent, which in turn influences the price on the secondary market.

When can I buy tickets for the Europa League final?

The aforementioned application and draw procedure always begins in April of the year in which the final takes place. Fans can therefore also apply for tickets for the 2024 final before the semi-finals have been played and the last match has actually been decided. In 2023, when the final took place on 31 May, the application phase for tickets closed on 28 April. Shortly afterwards, all applicants received information about a possible allocation.

This also means that many offers for Europa League final tickets may already be on sale again on ticket exchanges and similar portals from the end of April. This is particularly the case, for example, if tickets have been allocated and purchased but the favoured team has ultimately failed to reach the final. However, ticket holders may also be unable to attend at short notice, meaning that the lucky chance of an available ticket may arise at any time.

Final tickets for the Europa League on the secondary market

As already mentioned, the prices for tickets on ticket exchanges are usually higher. This can certainly be the case for finals and high-class matches in particular. It is primarily the private sellers who determine the price, while Viagogo and co. act as a marketplace and intermediary, whereby it is a free market in which supply and demand define the price level. There are also a number of aspects that interested parties need to bear in mind:

  • The purchase of tickets on the secondary market is completely legal and valid, purchased tickets can be used without any problems.
  • Tickets issued by UEFA are always personalised to the purchaser and must be re-personalised if they are resold to ensure their validity. (This can also be done easily at short notice via the official UEFA ticketing app).
  • All tickets for the Europa League final are digital, so there is no need for shipping and handling.
  • Secure payment options such as PayPal should be used when purchasing, while bank transfers pose a risk in cases of doubt.

While the majority of transactions on ticket exchanges are regulated and subsequently traceable, this is less the case with sales and purchases via eBay, classified ads and social media. Fraud is particularly common there, so interested parties should use such options with the utmost caution.

VIP tickets for the Europa League final

Attending a football match with VIP access is an experience in a class of its own. For those who are not afraid of the higher costs, VIP tickets for the Europa League final may be the ideal opportunity for an unforgettable evening of football at the Aviva Stadium in Dublin.

There are currently no official offers for VIP tickets. Experience shows that there will eventually be a number of individual categories, with low to mid four-figure prices being the norm. In fact, VIP tickets in the top category could even cost up to 10,000 euros.

Important information about travelling to the Europa League final

As is generally known, the Republic of Ireland is always worth a visit. Especially in spring and summer, the country captivates with its unique natural beauty. So if you manage to get hold of a Europa League final ticket, you should take the opportunity to get to know a little more about Dublin and Ireland.

German fans will most likely be travelling by flight to Dublin Airport. From there, buses on Dublin Express routes 782 and 784 run directly to the city centre. The bus stops are easily recognisable outside airport terminals 1 and 2.

If you are travelling towards the city centre on bus route 782, it is best to get off at “George’s Quay” and board one of the DART trains (Dublin Area Rapid Transit) at Tara Street Station. After around 10 minutes, the train arrives at Lansdowne Road Station, from where you can walk directly to the Aviva Stadium.

The 784 bus route from the airport takes you to Merrion Square Stop, from where you can walk directly to the stadium. The 15-minute walk even takes you through the greenery of Merrion Square Park.

These were the Europa League finals in recent years

A few examples from the past show just how fascinating, exciting and atmospheric a Europa League final can be. Just last year in 2023, Sevilla FC and AS Roma were tied 1-1 right up until the very last moment, meaning that only a penalty shoot-out saw Sevilla FC emerge victorious – for the seventh time in this competition.

The previous year was also full of suspense over 120 minutes, but ultimately successful from a German perspective: Eintracht Frankfurt beat Rangers from Glasgow 5:4 on penalties and celebrated another international title after decades, which was celebrated by football fans all over Germany.

Incidentally, the last Europa League final to be held at the Aviva Stadium was in 2011, when FC Porto narrowly beat Sporting Braga 1:0 in the Portuguese clash.
