Apart from the European Championships, the UEFA Champions League final is the highlight of every football season in Europe. In the final of the premier class, the duel for the “handle pot” is, so to speak, about the crown in professional football. In 2023, Manchester City secured this title by defeating Inter Milan at the Atatürk Olympic Stadium in Istanbul.
This year, Man City are once again among the favourites, but the field of participants is, as always, made up of the best of the best from all the top leagues. One thing is certain: on 1 June 2024 at Wembley Stadium in London, it will once again be a great spectacle. If you want to experience this and get your hands on tickets for the Champions League final, you have to expect high prices on the one hand and hope for a lot of luck on the other. But the effort is worth it for what is probably the most exciting match of the entire season.
Current tickets for the Champions League final
Unfortunately there are currently no tickets available.
How do I get tickets for the Champions League final?
Unlike the previous matches, where the club teams organise ticket sales themselves, ticket sales for the final are initially organised by UEFA. The first point of contact for tickets is therefore the association and its website. Experience shows that interested parties can apply for tickets there a few weeks before the final date and, after the draw, buy them directly if necessary.
For the 2023 final, for example, the application phase took place at the end of April (before the semi-final matches). The allocation and sales phase took place in early to mid-May, while the match was finally scheduled for 10 June. Incidentally, the tickets allocated in this way are a relatively small contingent. This is because a good two thirds of the seats in the stadium go equally to the finalists, who in turn organise the ticket allocation individually. There, too, it is customary to draw lots, with only season ticket holders, club members and fan club members having any chance at all.
A total of 72,000 tickets were available for the final at the Atatürk Olympic Stadium in Istanbul. Of these, 20,000 were allocated to each club and 17,200 tickets went on official sale via UEFA. The rest were offered by the association. Wembley Stadium has a total of 90,000 tickets available for the 2024 Champions League final, meaning that a quota of around 25,000 tickets can be assumed for public sale. Demand will, of course, far exceed supply.
Those who are unlucky in the lottery for tickets and come away empty-handed will find further opportunities on the secondary market. As for almost every match in European football, there will be a number of offers for the Champions League final on Viagogo and similar ticket exchanges, with ticket prices being higher due to the limited availability and high demand.
Finally, there is also the option of booking a so-called football trip. These are special travel packages from travel agencies such as Vietentours, which are supposed to offer a ticket guarantee and where hotel accommodation and various other extras are included in the price. The problem here is that these are high all-inclusive costs, while the exact category (and therefore the original price) of the tickets is usually not visible. Sometimes a travel package for such a football trip also includes a VIP ticket, which can result in higher four-figure sums.
How much do Champions League final tickets cost?
The exact price of tickets for the Champions League final depends on various factors – this applies both to the official sale and even more so to the secondary market. Above all, of course, the respective pairing of the finalists plays a role. In addition, the capacity of the final stadium determines the relationship between supply and demand. However, a look at past finals gives an approximate impression:
In 2023, UEFA offered the tickets to be raffled off in a total of 4 ticket categories:
- Category 4 – exclusively for people with severe disabilities, such as wheelchair users – price: 70 euros
- Category 3 – Seats directly behind the gates – Price: 180 Euro
- Category 2 – Main Stand and Opposite Stand in the upper tier – Price: 490 Euro
- Category 1 – Main Stand and Opposite Stand in the lower tier – Price: 690 euros
Anyone with a severe disability who receives a ticket will also receive a free ticket for an accompanying person. This will also be the case for the 2024 final. Incidentally, the very best seats on the centre line are usually excluded from category 1 tickets and are claimed by UEFA itself or allocated to sponsors, partners, etc.
When will tickets for the Champions League final go on sale?
As already mentioned, tickets for the 2024 Champions League final are expected to go on sale again in April 2024. Depending on the date of the match, the entire process is likely to be one to two weeks later than last year. Ideally, new information should be checked regularly from the quarter-finals onwards.
As soon as the tickets have been allocated and can be purchased, experience shows that there will already be initial offers on ticket portals. It will also often be the case that people apply for tickets while their favourite club is still in the semi-finals – but is then eliminated. In such cases in particular, tickets that have already been purchased are often resold.
Secondary market: tickets for the Champions League final on ticket exchanges
As ticket holders may be unable to attend at short notice, it is always worth keeping an eye on the secondary market. Even a few days before the Champions League final, there is still a chance of getting a ticket. It is important to know that Viagogo and similar platforms have no upper price limit. Even higher four-digit amounts are not uncommon if the time until the match is short and the pairing promises a special highlight. It should also be noted:
- In UEFA ticket sales, all tickets are personalised and only issued digitally. Tickets can be passed on or re-personalised using an official ticket app.
- Bank transfers pose a risk when paying for tickets and are exploited for fraud. Paypal and similar payment methods, on the other hand, offer greater buyer protection.
- If there are many offers for tickets, it is worth comparing prices, as these are determined by the private sellers.
- The ticket exchanges of the secondary market act as intermediaries and not as sellers. The purchase of tickets on the secondary market is absolutely legal.
How much do VIP tickets for the Champions League final cost?
For those who want to experience the final of the Champions League in an equally regal atmosphere and are not afraid of the cost, VIP tickets are still an option. However, there are currently no exact offers for VIP seats for the Champions League final and therefore no information about the respective prices.
Of course, at least four-figure sums are to be expected. The general hospitality offer at Wembley Stadium, for example, provides an impression of this. The cheapest VIP tickets are available there for 2538 pounds, the equivalent of just under 2900 euros, while the even higher categories cost many times more – in each case per person.
Information about Wembley Stadium and the 2024 final
This is the third time that Wembley has hosted a Champions League final and the last two matches at the stadium have been real highlights of the competition.
- In 2011, FC Barcelona was at its best with its star line-up of Messi, Xavi and Iniesta, celebrating tiki-taka football and defeating Manchester United 3:1.
- 2013 was historic from a German perspective. For the first time, two Bundesliga teams, Borussia Dortmund and FC Bayern Munich, played in the final, which Bayern won 2:1.
Incidentally, Wembley Stadium was originally planned as the final venue for the 2023/2024 Champions League season. The year 2023 was also the 100th anniversary of the historic London football temple. However, due to the situation surrounding the coronavirus pandemic in England, the venue had to be moved, meaning that the third Wembley final will finally take place a year later.
Travelling to the stadium for the Champions League final
To ensure the smoothest possible stadium experience, ticket holders should familiarise themselves with the most important aspects of getting to Wembley Stadium. As always, it is recommended that you do not use your car and travel by public transport, as there will be heavy traffic and a shortage of parking spaces.
A Travelcard or Visitor Oyster Card can be purchased to use public transport in London, although a Travelcard makes more sense and is cheaper for a two-day stay in the city. There are three stops near the stadium:
- Wembley Park – accessible with the Metropolitan Line and Jubilee Line
- Wembley Central – accessible by the Bakerloo Line, London Overground and Southern Railway trains
- Wembley Stadium – accessible with Chiltern Railways
All these stations are located in Zone 4 and are covered by the Travelcard or Oyster Card.
