The 2. Bundesliga is home to both traditional clubs with a large fan base and clubs that have become well-known in recent years due to their sporting success. Some well-known clubs are Hamburger SV, 1. FC Nürnberg, VfL Bochum, Fortuna Düsseldorf and 1. FC Köln.
The league follows a similar playing system to the Bundesliga. The season consists of 34 match days in which each team plays every other team twice – once at home and once away. At the end of the season, points are counted and the top two teams are directly promoted.
The 2. Bundesliga attracts many football fans and the stadiums can offer a passionate atmosphere. Although attendances can vary from club to club, there are often enthusiastic fans who support their teams and provide an atmospheric backdrop.
The matches are broadcast on German television. The exact broadcasting rights can change from year to year, but there are usually regular live matches on free TV as well as on pay-TV channels or streaming services.
