9 wins in one international match year: Austria’s national team could have broken this incredible record under the leadership of coach Ralf Rangnick in the Nations League at the weekend. What would it have taken? A win against Slovenia on matchday 6 of the competition. However, this was to be denied as Austria and Slovenia ended up drawing 1-1 after 90 minutes.
So the record was not to be broken, even if it was an exciting evening of football at the Ernst Happel Stadium in Vienna. Nevertheless, the Austrian fans should be very satisfied with their team’s performance for the year. One sector that is not exactly causing football fans in Austria to jump for joy, however, is the current ticket prices for the national team’s matches.
70 euros for a seat against Slovenia: Austria fans are unhappy with ticket pricing
In November, shortly before kick-off of the Nation League match between Austria and Slovenia, fans who wanted to buy a ticket for the clash in Vienna were paying around 70 euros for a seat. Far too much in the eyes of many fans of coach Ralf Rangnick’s team. Rangnick, however, defended the pricing for the last international match of the 2024 calendar year and explained that he would do everything in his power to get a ticket for the match. He justified this statement with the great entertainment value of the Austrian national team, and in doing so, he hit a nerve. After all, the Austrian team is inspiring internationally and has made amazing progress since Rangnick took over.
National player Marcel Sabitzer also expresses no concerns about the high ticket prices
Marcel Sabitzer, who has already been under contract with clubs such as FC Bayern Munich and RB Leipzig but is currently on the pitch for Borussia Dortmund, also sees no reason to think about ticket prices. Now, you can certainly smile about 70 euros with a million-dollar employment contract in your pocket, but the fact is that most football fans are not millionaires and use rare events such as the matches of the Austrian national team to treat themselves to a great experience. Therefore, we can say that 70 euros for an international match in the Nations League should certainly be the upper limit and not the standard.
