RB Leipzig tickets: Paris Saint-Germain instead of Lazio Rome as test match cracker

RB Leipzig Ticketnews

The RB Leipzig club has confirmed the test match against French champions Paris Saint-Germain. The test match will take place on 10 August at the Red Bull Arena in Leipzig. Kick-off is at 6 pm. This means that Leipzig will host a top-class, world-class test match opponent shortly before the start of the season.

Apart from the test match, the club from the trade fair city is planning a colourful supporting programme on the Festwiese as part of the season opening. A fan festival for the whole family and many other attractions are planned there. The test match against Lazio Rome on the same day has been postponed. The club cited organisational circumstances as the reason.

In the run-up to the test match against the Italian top team, there were loud protests from Leipzig supporters. The fans wanted to prevent a test match against the Romans due to a right-wing extremist camp in the Italian fan scene. Those responsible did not reveal whether this protest was also a reason for the cancellation.

RB Leipzig: Wild change in test match opponent

The test match against PSG has been planned for a long time. After all, Leipzig have been waiting six years for a test against the French champions. This agreement came about as part of the transfer of assistant coach Zsolt Löw in 2018, with both clubs agreeing a transfer fee of €1.5 million and a test match commitment.

Paris Saint-Germain initially postponed this year’s test match because the French side face AS Monaco in the Super Cup at home on 8 August. Due to this cancellation, Leipzig looked for a replacement opponent and found a well-known opponent in Lazio Rome. As the French Super Cup has been postponed, Paris will be able to play the test match after all. The match against Lazio has been postponed.

Both teams have agreed that the test match will be rescheduled. For both teams, it is a real acid test at eye level with a view to the season. However, the earliest date will probably be the 2025 summer preparations. Lazio Roma have not yet found an opponent to replace the match against Leipzig. The organisers from the trade fair city are helping the Romans to find a suitable fixture.
