2023/2024 was an absolute record season for the German Bundesliga, as more tickets were sold in the first half of the season than ever before. This record has now been promptly broken, with both Bundesliga leagues reporting a new ticket record for the first half of the season. Around 10.38 million tickets were sold and this figure clearly shows how popular the German leagues are with football fans.
New ticket record in the Bundesliga is also thanks to SV Werder Bremen
Only a few football stadiums in Germany have a 100 per cent occupancy rate. The Weserstadion in Bremen is a venue that is very well attended at every home game and is one of the few stadiums in Germany that is almost always completely sold out. Bremen fans are also happy to travel all over Germany to support their favourite team. On average, around 5,500 Werder fans are expected to make the journey when their team is away from home in the Bundesliga. This club loyalty plays a major part in the fact that a new ticket record was set in this first half of the season.
An increase of 100,000 football tickets can be reported
The German Football League has announced that almost 100,000 more tickets were sold in this first half of the season than in the previous record season. Both Bundesliga leagues together have sold a total of 10.38 million tickets to fans. This figure comes from a total of all ticket sales of the 36 football clubs in the 1st and 2nd Bundesliga.
2nd division on course for a record: 4.55 million tickets sold
The 2. Bundesliga enjoyed a particularly large number of spectators in the first half of the season, with the DFL attributing this to the fact that several large stadiums became part of the 2. Bundesliga season due to promotions and relegations. The home matches of 1. FC Köln in particular contributed to high ticket sales. A total of 4.55 million tickets were sold for 2. Bundesliga, which is a great result.
Incidentally, a total of 14 football clubs from Germany’s top two leagues managed to achieve a stadium occupancy rate of over 92 per cent. A great sign, because football fans in the country visit the stadiums and support their teams at home and away matches.
