FC Viktoria Köln is clearly overshadowed by the mighty 1. FC Köln in the city of the cathedral. This is evident in many ways. For instance, the stadium, Sportpark Höhenberg, has a capacity of just 8,343; the club is lucky if it attracts an average of 4,000 spectators; and on the pitch, the only real objective is to avoid relegation. Yet the intimate atmosphere at the compact sports complex has its charms, particularly as the club is involved in numerous social projects and offers residents on the right bank of the Rhine a local team to identify with. Sixth place last season demonstrates what is possible in today’s professional football, even under modest conditions.
The pricing structure for stadium tickets is straightforward. Standing tickets are available as season tickets for €175, whilst seated tickets cost €339 or €389, depending on the block. The club is keen to support its young fans, as there is a family block, whilst children up to the age of 14 pay only a fraction of the full price and there is a separate price category for school pupils aged 14 and over, which is significantly lower than the usual concessionary rate. Wheelchair users can also take their seats in a separate zone at reduced rates, accompanied by a carer. Day tickets follow a similar basic structure to the concessions mentioned above. Full prices here are 12 euros for standing room, 18 euros for the family section, and 22 or 25 euros for seats.
